In 1915, Latvian rifle units formed by volunteers were created in order to protect Baltic territories against German troops; these territorial units are known as Latvian Riflemen. Some of the photographs included in this exhibition illustrate the training they went through as well as the chemical weapons protective equipment with which they fought.

Exhibits are collected with courtesy of the Government of Latvia, the Latvian War Museum archives and Mr Janis Hartmanis’ private collection.
